Obesity prevention implemented in North Carolina

Posted by Luis F. Escalante on April 8 in Health

The North Carolina Health & Wellness Trust Fund Commission has teamed up with Blue Cross and Blue Shield to launch a three-year program called "Fit Together" which aims to fight obesity in the state, where more than half of adults are overweight. The $4.5 million initiative will include a public education campaign, consisting of advertising and other communications to the public and a Web site.

One of Fit Together's goal is to let people know that being "fit" doesn't necessarily mean going to the gym everyday. It means being active through activities such as walking the dog, gardening, pushing a child in a baby stroller, mowing the lawn or playing outside.
