Review: Quiznos Toasty Flatbread sandwiches

Posted by jonknee on April 21 in CarbWire Review

Quiznos Sub (incidently one of the fastest growing franchises) last week announced a low-carb option to nearly its entire menu. Instead of using the bread we're all used to, the chain can substitute in flatbread for all the sandwiches on the menu. This gives Quiznos the biggest low-carb menu in the fiercly competitive sub market.

quiznosflatbread.jpgHow did Quiznos do?
Really well. While we only had the Mesquite Chicken with Bacon, the results were terrific. There are 20 sandwiches to choose from, so there will be a lot more "research" in the coming weeks. The only negative is the flatbread only comes in one size. Regular sandwiches come in three sizes (the flatbread seems to run in the middle of the pack).

What did it cost?
Since the sizing is different, it's hard to say how much more the low-carb costed. If you opt for chips and a drink, it's 50¢ more to get the low-carb chips. If you don't get the chips, the prices are pretty comparable.

What are the specs?
Despite our requests to corporate, the only figures available for these sandwiches are net carbs. So if you need to know what you are eating, stay away. Our Mesquite Chicken with Bacon had 9.6 net carbs with everything on it, 7.6 without the Ranch dressing.

Verdict
The only complaint we can find with the sandwich is that it only comes in one size. If you normally have a large (foot long type) sandwich, the flatbread version just won't fill you up.

Not knowing the nutritional facts really rubbed us the wrong way. We'll try to track them down, but until then there is no way to tell what you're eating.

Update: We have started a movement to get Quiznos to release the missing nutritional information. Get on board here.
