Batter-coated fries now vegetable

Batter-coated french fries are now classified as a fresh vegetable by the USDA. The ruling by the Agriculture Department was recently backed up by a federal judge, but has caught a lot of flack. The department noted that the classification is only used for commerce, not nutrition, but that’s still too much for some people–especially fans of Super Size Me and Fast Food Nation.
