Atkins diet made its mark

An article in today’s LA Times notes that the Atkins diet has left a permanent mark on the American culture. This is similar to the piece about ‘carb awareness’ that we linked last week.

bq. “The good that Atkins did is that he made people more mindful about the importance of limiting refined carbohydrates like sugar and white flour,” said cardiologist Dean Ornish

Something else that Atkins left on the establishment is that out of the box ideas shouldn’t be tossed aside.

It should also be noted that there are millions of dieters still cutting carbs and that recent business troubles at Atkins does not make the diet work any less than it did during the boom.
