If You Start With Low-Carb, Then Stay With Low-Carb

A new study published in the March 2006 issue of Agricultural Research magazine concludes that it really doesn’t matter which diet plan you choose to lose weight, but rather that you “stick with” it forever.

bq. I’ve been preaching that exact same message ever since I lost over 180 pounds on the Atkins diet in 2004 and have kept it off by continuing to eat this way. While I advocate low-carb living, I certainly don’t discourage people from trying something else to help them shed pounds. The point is that overweight and obese people need to find something that will work for THEM and then STICK TO IT forever. This isn’t rocket science people.

Dr. Ernst J. Schaefer led this study of 160 overweight and obese people who tried one of four diet plans, including Atkins low-carb, Ornish low-fat, Weight Watchers or The Zone. After one year, everyone who completed the study saw significant weight loss and improvements in their cholesterol.

This proves it’s not about the diet, Dr. Shaefer added, but rather the commitment to the specific plan you choose that determines your success with it or not.
