Pssst…I Heard A Rumor That The Atkins Diet Was Unhealthy

Can somebody explain to me how you can argue against the Atkins diet when you’ve never even read any of Dr. Atkins’ books? I suppose you can make up a bunch of senseless accusations about the diet based on what you’ve “heard” about it, but you certainly couldn’t speak intelligently about it. We may need to issue a “dunce” cap for anyone that does this.

Lo and behold, here’s somebody that needs one of those caps right now named Jason Valerio for writing an ignorant and erroneous column entitled “The Diet to End All Diets!!! Right?”

What follows is Valerio’s attempt to explain why the Atkins diet is an unreasonable nutritional approach and concludes in the end it is too unhealthy for anyone to stay on it over the long-term.

Here are some of the highlights of his pitiful comments:

“…this diet not only allowed me to eat meat, but it also let me eat as much as I wanted!”

“…all I had to do was eat meat to lose weight.”

“But I didn’t realize that it would be so hard avoiding carbohydrates…It was so bad that the diet didn’t even allow vegetables for at least two weeks for the same reason.”

“I soon found out that [weight loss] success [on the Atkins diet] was not permanent.”

There’s much more from this young skull full of mush, but it is obvious he has never once opened up a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.

bq. Perhaps if our friend Jason and others like him would stop foolishing battling the Atkins diet without ever opening the book, then maybe we could have a real conversation about the merits and differences with low-carb living. But you can’t argue with anyone who is too lazy to even read up about a subject before writing about it like Jason did. He really ought to ask for his tuition money back from the University of San Francisco because he must not have learned much while he was there!
