Iran Solicits ‘One Ton Or More’ Of Maltitol From Low-Carb Blogger?

Filed under: In The News — @ May 11, 2006

What do you do when you receive an e-mail from someone in Iran and he wants to buy “one ton or more” of maltitol for his pastry factory?

That’s exactly what I received on Wednesday.

Dear Seller.

I’m chemical engineer, I’m working in halva shekari factory in Iran. We decided to buy one ton (1000 kg) or more than of maltitol. We want to know about price of it??? If it’s price suitable for us, we will buy it from you. I’m waiting for your reply.

Thanks great. fax:88825152

I have no idea what this person from Iran is up to or whether he is working with defiant Iranian President Maumoud Ahmadinejad to infiltrate America with the gastric distress-causing, maltitol-laden products.

bq. Oh wait a minute, maltitol is ALREADY used in just about everything sugar-free in America — so much for that idea, President Ahmadinejad!
