It’s Official: Wave Goodbye To Low-Carb Magazines!

Remember the popular television show from the late 70s/early 80s called Fantasy Island (it came on right after The Love Boat on ABC)? I’m probably dating myself with this reference, but I can remember as a child seeing Mr. Roark and Tattoo waving goodbye to the guests as they were leaving.

Well, it’s time for us to wave goodbye for good to the low-carb magazines. The slow death of the final low-carb magazine came when LowCarb Energy changed its name to SheKnows LowCarb in January this year and then again announced the content of SheKnows LowCarb would be rolled into Diet & Fitness magazine beginning this Fall. It’s not gonna happen now.

As a contributing writer for the magazine that is now history, I was told today that the magazine has officially “ceased publication” and it was a “difficult decision” they “just had to make at this point.”

Okay, fair enough. So now where does that leave us low-carbers? Is there not a market for information on the low-carb lifestyle anymore? I would argue that there is as evidenced by the number or people who STILL visit Carbwire and low-carb blogs, many for the first time ever, on a daily basis.

But how much reach can these web sites have on our culture and what other means are available for spreading the good news about this amazing way of eating?

Here’s my challenge to those who support low-carb living:

bq. There has to be investors out there who are willing to see solid information and commentary regarding the low-carb lifestyle be distributed to a world where two out of every three people are overweight or obese and one in three are diabetic or pre-diabetic. Will any of them be willing to put their money where their mouth is and support those individuals who still desire to bring the REAL low-carb lifestyle to the mainstream of society? Anyone?

As Mr. Roarke would say, “Smiles everyone, smiles!”
