‘Healthy At Any Weight’ Is The Biggest Scam Ever Pushed On The Overweight

Filed under: In The News — @ September 21, 2006

There is an ever-growing movement in the United States called “fat acceptance” that encourages people who are overweight or obese to just be content with the weight they are at regardless of the scorn and criticism they receive from society.

The line of reasoning they implore is that it is possible to be healthy at any weight as long as you are happy in the skin you’re in. Doesn’t that just sound so peachy, pie-in-the-sky, syrupy good?! But, the only problem is that it’s the biggest lie you’ll ever hear if you have a weight problem.

bq. When I weighed an abysmal 410 pounds at the beginning of 2004, many would say I had put myself in a bad situation, even a potentially “dangerous” one. My health was on the decline with breathing, blood pressure and cholesterol problems among other ailments. I was quite literally a ticking timebomb just waiting to explode. But then I started livin’ la vida low-carb and changed my life forever. Sure, I could have just accepted my fat for what it was and begged people to not judge me for my weight. However, it wasn’t about my image, but rather my health.

And therein lies the issue. People who simply “accept” their obesity are actually putting their health in danger by doing nothing about it. Sure, there are skinny people who have health issues as well, but carrying around extra weight has been found to exascerbate health problems that may not manifest themselves without the weight.

Let me be perfectly clear: I am NOT for the discrimination of overweight or obese people and find it deplorable that such hearless and cruel ridicule still exists in America today. There needs to be greater sensitivity towards people who struggle with their weight because it is a difficult thing to overcome. I know.

But at the same time, people who are in this situation need to pull themselves up out of their situation and find a weight loss plan such as the low-carb lifestyle to help them lose the weight and get healthy. Believing you are okay when your house is burning does not make you okay. The same goes for your weight.
