Posted by Jimmy Moore on February 27 in Atkins Diet
No matter what I write about here at CarbWire and at my blog, one thing is for certain...somebody, somewhere is gonna be offended by SOMETHING I have written. Nevertheless, you won't see me apologize about the topics I write about because I never promised anyone they would agree with EVERYTHING I discuss. Man, what a boring place this would be if everyone said "ditto" with what Jimmy Moore thinks! EEEEK! :)
Oh, but I really got on the bad side of one of my readers named Karen E. Miller who absolutely did not agree with what I wrote in this blog post about hunger while on a low-carb diet. You will recall that I recommended people who are hungry despite livin' la vida low-carb need to start eating more fat among other changes.
Well, you would have thought I had cursed Karen's grandmother with the reaction she had to it. Here's her original comment that was posted at the end of that article over the weekend:
Jimmy, I'm confused. You say don't mix low-carb and low-fat, and yet you endorse the Kimkins program which is low-carb and low-fat. Which is it?
It was a good question and I happily responded to it.
THANKS for your comments! While the Kimkins low-carb plan that I have blogged about often here is indeed lower in fat and calories than a more traditional low-carb program like Atkins, but I wouldn't describe it as "low-fat" per se.
Sure, I think it's an excellent way of eating for people who feel like they can't lose on other low-carb plans. But that doesn't mean I necessarily endorse it wholeheartedly for everyone. I lost weight on Atkins and did just fine with it.
My experience with fat intake has been that when you take the carbs out of your diet, you need fat to be your fuel. If you then remove the fat, too, then you are simply not enjoying the physiological (and I would say psychological) benefits that this lifestyle change has to offer you.
Again, thanks for allowing me to answer your question. GREAT ONE!
Unfortunately, that answer wasn't good enough for Karen to leave it at that. Instead, she attempted to post another comment to my blog yesterday morning pressing me further about my apparent parodoxical support for a high-fat, low-carb diet approach akin to the Atkins diet (which is how I lost 190 pounds, by the way) vs. my advocacy of the lower-fat, low-carb Kimkins diet.
Since we've got a bona fide controversy on our hands here, I'd like to address each part of her comments which I initially rejected because I felt she was simply repeating her original concerns in a much more forceful manner. But, seeing this as an opportunity to clear the air on this Kimkins controversy, I've chosen to write more about it for anyone else who may feel the same way that Karen does.
You can see why Karen was so upset with me and my response to each of her concerns by clicking here.
