Discover Seabuckthorn–The Next Great Superfood!

Filed under: In The News — @ December 17, 2008

Seabuckthorn is a Himalayan fruit rich in omega 3, 6, 7, and 9

With omega-6 fatty acids dominating the American diet these days no thanks to all the man-made vegetable oils that show up all across the food chain, finding new sources of omega-3 fatty acids to counterbalance the overwhelming ratio of upwards of 20 to 1 in the typical diet is critical. We know about consuming fish oil, Wild Alaskan salmon and other fresh fish, walnuts, and grass-fed beef, for example. But I recently learned of another source of omega-3s that you may want to hear about.

In Episode 209 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from Peter McMullin, the marketing and promotions manager for an up-and-coming company called Sibu educates us on a fruit from the Himalayas called seabuckthorn. The oil from the seeds found in seabuckthorn contain an excellent non-fishy source of omega-3s as well as 190 other nutrients. Aside from macadamia nuts, they are the only other food that contains omega-7, a less known fatty acid. Peter tells us about his company’s Tashi Diet Care product that contains gel capsules filled with the oil from the seed of the seabuckthorn fruit.
