Tanya Attebery shares her obese childhood experiences in “Fat-Haters Club”

Were you a chubby kid like I was back in the 1980s? If so, then you know all about the pain and heartache that comes from the constant teasing and names that are hurled in your direction simply because the scale shows you have a few pounds more than the rest of your class. The psychological damage that comes from that experience can impact you into your teenage years and well into adulthood which is why my podcast interview guest today is taking the lessons she learned from her own childhood to help counsel middle school students she serves as guidance counselor for now as an adult.

In Episode 231 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from Tanya Attebery discussing the details of her new book entitled Fat-Haters’ Club where she talks about the personal struggles that come from being ont he receiving end of insults, names, and “just jokes.” As an overweight pre-teen, she heard it all and shared parts of her own story into four different characters in her book. The interview shares how Tanya went from being the one hated into a “fat-hater” herself after losing a significant amount of weight in her freshman year of high school. If you or your child have endured the very real pain of dealing with living in the body of an obese person growing up, then this podcast today is for YOU!

Next week we’ve got two especially compelling interview guests to share with you. On Monday, we hear from Dr. Judith Beck, author of a new book called The Complete Beck Diet for Life: The Five-Stage Program for Permanent Weight Loss which is a follow-up to her bestselling 2007 book The Beck Diet Solution. You’ll hear her discuss the cognitive therapy techniques for weight loss she uses with her clients that her father Dr. Aaron Beck started using in the 1960s as part of The Beck Institute For Cognitive Therapy and Research. Then on Thursday, we get to talk to one of my fellow low-carb bloggers from the About.com Low-Carb Diets web site, Laura Dolson. She is arguably one of the most professional and humble people I know in the low-carb community and I am privileged to call her a friend. I look forward to letting you hear directly from Laura next Thursday!
