The Atkins Diet Is Back: Researchers Offer 2010 Update To World’s Most Popular Low-Carb Diet Plan

Filed under: Atkins Diet, Health, Publications — jimmy @ 2:40 am

A newly-updated low-carb plan with scientific studies to boot

In an exclusive first-look at the brand new book from Atkins Nutritionals obtained by Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb, advocates of a high-fat, moderate-protein, and low-carb nutritional approach will have a lot to cheer about. Three of the most well-known and highly-respected researchers of carbohydrate restriction were charged with penning an updated Atkins diet book that would be simpler to follow and completely backed by the latest science. The result of those efforts are culminated in the March 2, 2010 paperback book release New Atkins for a New You: The Ultimate Diet for Shedding Weight Fast and Feeling Great Forever.

Dr. T. Colin Campbell Describes Dr. Atkins As ‘Pretend’ Doctor Who Shared ‘Nonsense’ Dietary Advice

Filed under: Atkins Diet, Health — jimmy @ 4:02 pm

Low-fat vegetarian “China Study” author Dr. T. Colin Campbell

We’ve all heard the famous saying “keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.” And while I attempt to be a friend to virtually everyone I meet regardless of my own personal differences of opinion on any number of issues, it’s almost impossible not to identify certain people whose world view is so opposite to your own that it is radically different in every way as somewhat of an enemy combatant. But in the case of the low-carb community, there is one man who certainly fits within the definition of that term: Dr. T. Colin Campbell.

Just as people who are livin’ la vida low-carb often point to the September 2007 release of Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes as the very best book about healthy high-fat, low-carbohydrate nutrition that articulates the science behind the message we advocate, on the other end of the spectrum is Dr. Campbell’s January 2005 book entitled The China Study which promotes an ultra low-fat, plant-based diet for health. There could not be two more starkly different publications on the subject of healthy living out there than these two and both are considered the masterpiece, the magnum opus, the pièce de résistance so to speak of how people should be eating for the sake of controlling their weight and improving their health by their respective supporters. It’s a strange dichotomy how these two tee-totally opposite messages could simultaneously be given the same kind of dignity and disdain all at the same time.

The vegetarian/vegan community hypes The China Study as the be-all, end-all, there’s-no-sense-in-discussing-anything-further final say on all things related to diet, health, and nutrition. That truly is unfortunate because most low-carbers I know are at least open-minded and pragmatic enough to know that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all diet that is for everyone. This kind of monolithic thinking is displayed almost exclusively by those who herald Dr. Campbell as a hero to their cause. In my upcoming book entitled 21 Life Lessons From Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb, I discuss in Lesson #12 my encounters with the fringe element of the low-fat, vegetarian movement which is sadly much more common than people even realize. It’s such a shame they have to be so exclusionary of the healthy low-carb message.

The reason I’m bringing up Dr. Campbell is because he recently jumped in on the discussion thread I created at Amazon.com a few years back called “What Are Your Criticisms Of The Low-Carb Lifestyle?” It’s amazing how that thread has taken on a life of its own over the past three years and it comes in spurts. From enthusiastic defenders of both low-carb and low-fat to a few crazies here and there, it has attracted them all. But imagine my surprise several weeks ago when none other than Dr. T. Colin Campbell himself made an appearance on the thread to articulate his viewpoints.

Is It ‘Eco-Atkins’ Or Echo Atkins? Vegans Attempting To Co-Opt Low-Carb For Themselves

Filed under: Atkins Diet, In The News — jimmy @ 12:28 am

Woman’s World finds itself wrapped up in controversy again over Eco-Atkins

You know what they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery. But that familiar saying only applies if in attempting to imitate you don’t completely pervert the intent of the original idea. But that’s exactly what has been done to the original Atkins low-carb approach by a very aggressive group pushing a vegan-styled diet they call “Eco-Atkins” as a means to discredit the original Atkins diet created by the late great Dr. Robert C. Atkins.

The latest excursion into beating up on the Atkins diet comes from the editors atWoman’s World magazine. As one of the most widely-read publications for women in America today, they frequently highlight new diets for women to try. You might recall they had to print a mea culpa to their readers in February 2008 just eight months after featuring a big cover story on the now-infamous Kimkins diet which was later found to be a fraud run by a morbidly-obese woman who had claimed in a podcast interview I conducted with her in 2007 that she had lost 200 pounds. Oops! Well, the latest issue of Woman’s World isn’t much better as they put the focus squarely on this “Eco-Atkins” diet nonsense.

Click here to see the brief history behind this “Eco-Atkins” movement and why it is nothing more than an attempt by the radical vegan and vegetarian groups out there to pervert the amazing benefits of a healthy meat-based, high-fat, low-carbohydrate nutritional approach.

‘The Hidden Perils Of The Atkins Phenomena’ Debunked

Filed under: Atkins Diet, In The News — jimmy @ 6:49 pm

Gee, what a surprise — the Atkins diet is maligned again!

One of the primary purposes of what I do at this blog is to make people think about what they believe and why they believe it. On the subject of nutrition and health, the difference between what is fact from fiction could very well have your life depending on it. That is one of the reasons why I speak out so passionately about what I believe both from my own experiences as well as all the research I have done on healthy low-carb living.

My goal is to arm you with fact-based information, get you excited about livin’ la vida low-carb, help boost your confidence as you speak with people about this amazing way of eating, and hopefully encourage you to carry on the low-carb torch to others by standing in defense of what it has done for you and millions more. I’m thrilled to see so many new faces joining us long-term low-carbers in articulating what this remarkable nutritional approach has done for both our weight and health. It’s like we have our own little army of troops out there who are constantly on guard to protect the message from being distorted by would-be evildoers.

That’s precisely what happened yesterday in a newspaper column entitled “The Hidden Perils Of The Atkins Phenomena.” Find out more about the lies about low-carb that were shared in this column and the response one of my readers shared with the editors at that paper by clicking here.

Dr. Heidi Dulay’s ‘Extreme Regime Fat Burn Formula’ Is ‘Atkins On Steroids’

Filed under: Atkins Diet, Health — jimmy @ 6:24 pm

Dr. Heidi Dulay is a big believer in livin’ la vida low-carb

Whether the medical and nutrition community wants to admit it or not, the fact is there are a lot of practitioners out there who are helping their patients with weight loss and health issues with a low-carb nutritional approach. While they may not always describe it like that, when you take a good hard look at the plan, it’s totally low-carb. Today we have an interview guest who is not only unashamed of calling her program low-carb, but willingly shares how to make your low-carb lifestyle even better.

In Episode 246 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from certified nutritionist and hypnotherapist Dr. Heidi Dulay who created The Extreme Regime Fat Burn Formula program to help people who want to maximize the results of their low-carb lifestyle. You’ll hear Dr. Heidi discuss the peculiar way she stumbled on to low-carb, the changes she has seen in the health of the people she has placed on this diet, the dangers of statin drugs, the impact of books by Gary Taubes and Michael Pollan on the work she does, what is good about saturated fat, and why grass-fed beef is so much better than the industrialized, corn-fed ones that dominate the modern food supply. It’s over an hour-long discussion of delicious low-carb living!

‘FAT HEAD’ Film Creator Interviews Low-Carb Blogger Jimmy Moore

Tom Naughton talks with me about healthy low-carb living

From time to time, I’m asked by my fellow low-carb and health bloggers and podcasters if they could interview me about the work I’m doing with my various “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” projects. I consider it the highest form of respect and admiration when a peer recognizes the impact of your contributions towards the subject you are most passionate about. Here are a few that have happened over the past couple of years, including with Laura Dolson from the About.com Low-Carb Diets web site, Atkins Nutritionals, Mark Sisson from “Mark’s Daily Apple,” Connie Bennett from the “Stop Sugar Shock” podcast and Dr. Jonny Bowden.

I have another one to share with you today from my friend Tom Naughton who you might know better as the creator of the hilariously funny and informative new documentary film about the healthy benefits of low-carb eating called FAT HEAD. He recently took me up on my suggestion that he start blogging and he’s a real natural at it with his comedic background (not that his background is funny and all, but that he makes a living making people laugh–oh nevermind!).

Tom asked if he could interview me for his new blog site and I was happy to do so. Click here to access Part 1 of this interview today. Part 2 will be posted at the FAT HEAD blog on Tuesday.

Deon van der Merwe Is Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb In South Africa

Filed under: Atkins Diet — jimmy @ 10:01 pm

Deon van der Merwe is a changed man today because of low-carb living

Although you may not hear about very many low-carb weight loss success stories in the media, I’m here to tell you they are happening in the lives of real people every single day all across the globe. Livin’ la vida low-carb has become such a permanent way of life for so many people who finally realize the low-fat lie (it’s a lie because proponents of it claim it is the ONLY way to lose weight and be healthy–HOGWASH!) just wasn’t gonna cut it for them anymore. There had to be something better and more effective that would not just produce weight loss but also a dramatic positive turnaround in health. And they’ve found it in low-carb living.

I’m honored to know quite a few people who have lost extraordinary amounts of weight just like I did following a carbohydrate-restricted lifestyle change, like Kelly Keener, Christine Young, Karen Kimball, Jo Heeley, Kent Altena, Colleen Awalt, Darlene Smith, Shayne Sherbert, Jimmy Dorsett, Mary Smith, Manuel Uribe, Jennette Fulda, Valerie Liberty, and Dr. Kalvin Chinyere who have all experienced HUGE weight loss results thanks to the healthy low-carb way of life. And today I’m honored to share yet another name to add to that ever-growing list and he hails all the way from South Africa. His name is Deon van der Merwe.

Click here to be inspired by Deon’s remarkable low-carb weight loss success journey that took him from pushing 400 pounds to just under 200 pounds today.

Kent Altena’s New Atkins Diet TV Show To Feature Q&A About Low-Carb Living

Filed under: Atkins Diet — jimmy @ 12:02 am

Atkins weight loss success Kent Altena creates LIVE video show

When you lose a significant, life-changing amount of weight following a healthy nutritional approach like Atkins low-carb, it’s almost impossible to keep silent about it. Just ask anybody who’s lost over 100 pounds–there’s a certain spring in your step, a little more pedal to the metal in your passion, and a willingness to share the good news you’ve discovered with EVERYONE you know. That’s one of the reasons why I spend so much time chronicling my own low-carb experiences in various writing outlets, record interesting podcast interviews with leaders in the low-carb and health community, and create fun YouTube videos with my wife Christine to continue to educate, encourage, and inspire others to take this journey for themselves.

But I’m not the only guy who has lost well over 100 pounds on the Atkins diet who is working hard to spread the word about livin’ la vida low-carb. Blogging buddy and friend Kent Altena has made his presence known over the past few years after his stunning weight loss success. I’ve blogged about all the things Kent has been doing to put the Atkins diet back on the map again, including his awesome YouTube video series which came back last year after a little prodding. You’ll want to subscribe to Kent’s videos and watch them all. His are much more instructive than my YouTube videos as he presents the information in a straightforward format.

You could sense during my podcast interview with Kent in June 2008 that he wanted to do more to reach people with the positive Atkins low-carb message and that’s precisely what he is doing with a brand new idea that has now become a reality.

Check it out–a LIVE Atkins Diet TV show: CLICK HERE!

Kent will be hosting a LIVE Atkins Diet TV show online every Thursday night at 9pm CST/10pm EST to host a Q & A session as well as topic-based discussions on various issues involving livin’ la vida low-carb and the Atkins diet.

“I want everyone to be as successful as I have been,” Kent writes about his new show. “Who knows? In a few weeks I will probably be in the kitchen cooking my favorite low-carb treat or meal of the moment.”

This won’t be replacing his awesome YouTube videos, but simply serving as a better means of interacting with Kent to answer the burning questions people have for him about Atkins low-carb. As a 200+ pound Atkins weight loss success, he certainly has plenty of wisdom to share and I hope you take advantage of this unique opportunity to glean from his experience.

BOOKMARK THIS STREAMING VIDEO PAGE and start following this LIVE show each week. I’ll be trying to make it on the show from time to time answering questions people may have about the low-carb lifestyle. Now if we could only get a show like this on network or cable television!

Learn The REAL Atkins Diet With This Exclusive Atkins Diet Startup Kit

Filed under: Atkins Diet — jimmy @ 3:42 pm

There are two ends of the spectrum when people start talking about being on the “Atkins diet”–either they are simply cutting back on their carbohydrates and consuming whatever amounts of meat, cheese, eggs, and bacon they choose to eat or they are following the plan that was written and promoted by the late great Dr. Robert C. Atkins in his various books, most notably Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution.

It’s amazing how people can get away with describing both of these as the “Atkins diet” when only those people who have educated themselves about this way of eating in the latter group can honestly say that. Even worse, we’ve got people who try to debate the Atkins diet without ever seeing what Dr. Atkins wrote. Come on, that’s just plain ignorant if you ask me. So I’m ready to help do something about this lack of understanding about the Atkins diet starting right here and right now.

Forget The Media, Jo Heeley Tells Her Own Low-Carb Weight Loss Success Story

Filed under: Atkins Diet — jimmy @ 10:41 am

The media missed the story, but Jo’s here to set ‘em straight!

If there’s one thing we can always count on almost automatically from most media coverage of people who have lost weight on the low-carb lifestyle is they’re just gonna get it wrong. The great Dr. Mike Eades blogged about this very subject just last week with a low-carb success story named Phill Novak appearing on CNN recently (they only gave a cursory mention to his diet and focused almost exclusively on his exercise–I interviewed Phill about his DIET for my podcast show today). It’s just a sad reality in mainstream media coverage these days that we have to come to terms with.

As a writer myself, I try to make sure the information I provide is as accurate as possible according to the research and knowledge I have about that subject. With that said, sometimes there is pertinent data missing from articles I have written and I respond accordingly. Such is the case with this December 2006 blog post about a low-carb weight loss success story named Jo Heeley. She lost a total of 84 pounds following a low-carb eating regimen and her story was featured in a popular British newspaper called The Sun.

Unfortunately, the author of that article (apparently no longer available online) took judicious liberty to make up and embellish the story to appear as if UK nutritionist Amanda Ursell had something to do with Jo’s success. Well, in a word–WRONG! I recently heard from Jo Heeley herself and she said the column was fraught with so many “errors” it wasn’t even funny.

Click here to read Jo Heeley’s incredible Atkins diet weight loss success story IN HER WORDS so there will be no doubt about the truth. It’s truly incredible!
