Bad Cooks Wanted For Food Network Show; Jimmy Moore Video To Be Featured On ‘Ask Aida’

Filed under: Television — jimmy @ 5:19 pm

Is being in the kitchen like a foreign country to you?

First they were looking for “amazing stories” surrounding food. Then they wanted video submissions asking a cooking expert for help in the kitchen. Now The Food Network is looking for the most hopeless, helpless, and hapless home cooks in America (you know who you are)!

If you or someone you know has no clue what they are doing in the kitchen, then listen up. Do you burn water when you try to boil it? Is your idea of cooking slapping together a cold cut sandwich? Then you could appear in a brand new show coming to The Food Network for a “culinary competition” with other similar contestants from across the United States.

The more incompetent the cook, the better. And they truly want “the most disastrous cooks in the country” to step forward and claim their title of worst cooks in America. Your reward for outing yourself as a bad cook is to have the chance to work with some of the finest professional chefs in the country as they teach you the secrets to being a great cook. Of course, you’ll need to be an interesting, outgoing person with a personality that will capture the attention of the television viewers at home.

If you genuinely can’t cook but wish you knew how and want to be considered for this new show on The Food Network, then nominate yourself or someone you know to be on this show. Are you the kind of person that is asked to bring the napkins and plates rather than food? Or do you have someone in mind who fits this mold? That’s who The Food Network is looking for, so don’t be shy. ENTER TODAY!

Keep in mind if you nominate someone, then you will need to attend the interview with your friend or loved one as well. How often do you get a chance to be on television because you are BAD at something (okay, American Idol is the ONE exception!).

It’s super-easy to apply–just send an e-mail to hopelesshomecook@optomenusa.com with an explanation about why you or the person you are nominating is dubbed in your mind as “the most disastrous cook in the country.” Don’t forget to include your name, age, hometown, occupation, contact phone number, and a recent photo of the hopeless, helpless, hapless cook. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE and here’s hoping your “bad” cooking turns into a chance to be on TV learning how to cook well.

By the way, remember when I told you about a new show coming to The Food Network in August called “Ask Aida” and I submitted a couple of videos to be considered for that show? My first video was about how to brown mashed cauliflower and my other video featured how to make eggs more interesting. Well, they chose one of my videos to be featured on the show and I now have a date when it will air.

On Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 12:30pm EST, Aida Mollenkamp will do an entire show on the subject of eggs. My video will be played and then Aida will share some wonderful recipes that feature eggs. She’s already posted two recipes featuring eggs here and here (I LOVED this one!) and I can’t wait to see what she shares on the show. WOO HOO! I’m gonna be on The Food Network for about 45 seconds. :D

Micah McCain Is Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb On BRAVO-TV’s ‘Workout’

Filed under: Television — jimmy @ 11:20 am

Micah McCain shedding the pounds on BRAVO-TV’s “Workout”

During this special “Week Of Weight Loss Wisdom” on my podcast “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we’re hearing some truly remarkable low-carb weight loss turnarounds from people just like you and me. On Monday, Sue Knorr told us all how The Zone Diet has been making a positive difference in her life for the past 12 years and counting. Today we have another guest who only recently learned about the power of the healthy low-carb lifestyle.

In Episode 148 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from Micah McCain who is currently a contestant on Season 3 of the hit BRAVO television weight loss reality series called Workout. When this show first came out in 2006, I blogged about it as yet another program on national television to inspire others in their own weight loss efforts and it has flourished ever since! Micah is one of the people who has experienced a tremendous turnaround and I’m pleased to share my interview with him today as part of this “Week Of Weight Loss Wisdom.”

Micah McCain discusses how his weight shocked him out of nowhere when he saw some video footage of himself. This is a subject I’ve blogged about before and it’s true–if you wanna see what others see when they look at you, then have someone take a video or photograph of you and there it will be. It’s a stark reality that hit Micah right between the eyeballs and made him want to do what he had to do to get that weight off.

Dealing with obesity his entire life, Micah needed an incremental approach to shedding the pounds. His trainer and nutrition adviser started him out eating more vegetables and fruit and then began substituting some healthy options in place of some of the junk food he was eating. The slow change in Micah’s diet then took a low-carb turn when the sugar was removed first followed by flour, dairy, starchy veggies and even some fruits (because they’re too high in sugar!). WOW! Pretty soon, Micah was full-fledged livin’ la vida low-carb and he hasn’t looked back since!

In this second interview in the “Week Of Weight Loss Wisdom”, Micah McCain was quite open and honest about how he struggled with his weight for most of his life until he became educated about what healthy living is. What do you think about his trainer’s incremental approach to change? Is it better to go slow and ease somebody into the low-carb lifestyle or to switch them cold turkey to low-carb immediately? This oughta be an interesting discussion, so feel free to express yourself in the show notes section of Episode 148.

Coming up the rest of this week is:
WEDNESDAY–Kent Altena (Bowulf) who lost over 200 pounds on Atkins
THURSDAY–Rebecca Wilhoit on The Perfect Body Diet
FRIDAY–Charlie Hills who authored a book called Why Your Last Diet Failed You and How This Book Won’t Help You on Your Next One

Got someone you’d like for me to interview on an upcoming episode of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore?” I’m working on quite a few right now for the next few months, but I welcome your ideas and suggestions. Call our podcast hotline anytime at (206) 202-6516 and leave a message or you can e-mail me at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. Be sure to come back again TOMORROW for my interview with my friend and fellow Atkins diet weight loss success story and blogger Kent Altena who dropped 200 pounds on low-carb and is now running marathons! Get Your Copy Of The High-Fat, Low-Carb Diet Documentary ‘My Big Fat Diet’

Filed under: Television — jimmy @ 3:28 pm

“My Big Fat Diet” documentary
about low-carb now on DVD!

It’s FINALLY here!

In March 2008, I blogged about a new Canadian documentary about a revolutionary documentary featuring a whole community of Canadian Namgis First Nation people who went on a traditional high-fat, low-carb diet to see if that would help curb the trend towards obesity and disease that has afflicted them in recent years. It was an innovative and ingenious experiment to determine if the modern Western influence on their diet was responsible for their decline in health.

Did it work? Uh, DUH!

The results of this remarkable study were unbelievable in light of all the continued negativity about low-carb living that STILL occurs in the media and from so-called health “experts” in 2008. Led by Dr. Jay Wortman, along with assistance from some of the most prominent low-carb researchers and genuine low-carb experts in the world (Dr. Eric Westman, Dr. Mary C. Vernon, Dr. Stephen Phinney, Jackie Eberstein, etc.), the lives of these people experienced quite a turnaround thanks mostly to the healthy low-carb lifestyle they now enjoy which was the original diet of their early ancestors.

To help get the message out about this study featuring a high-fat, low-carb diet, Dr. Wortman had a film crew from Mystique Films come out to document what was happening to the people as they went on this “big, fat diet.” As we heard in my podcast interview with the producer Mary Bissell and Dr. Wortman last month, the documentary was a big hit on CBC Newsworld when My Big, Fat Diet aired earlier this year and it has gone on to become one of the most-watched documentaries of the year in Canada. Not too shabby for a film about a dying “fad” diet, huh? :)
During my trip to Phoenix, Arizona for the ASBP/Nutrition & Metabolism conference in April, Mary and Dr. Wortman showed their documentary to a group of bariatic physicians on Sunday morning and these obesity doctors just ate it up! When an announcement was made that there were copies of the DVD available for purchase at the conference store, there were droves of bariatric physicians lining up to get their own personal copy like they were purchasing concert tickets for Hannah Montana for their kids! It was mayhem–and a beautiful thing!!! :D
Up until now, people in the United States have been unable to see this surprisingly funny documentary because it has neither been shown on television here nor has it been made available for purchase on DVD. But after Mystique Films received tons of public demand since it aired in Canada, the filmmakers have finally decided the time was right to release this groundbreaking documentary about the Canadian high-fat, low-carb diet study to the masses. And you’re hearing about it first here today at my blog!

Be one of the first people in your area to own a copy of My Big, Fat Diet by clicking here. You can purchase an Individual View version of the DVD (which means for your personal use inside your home) or the Public View version of the DVD (for larger audiences in a group setting) by using PayPal. You can purchase this DVD by using your Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, or PayPal account and the price includes your shipping and handling charges. I cannot think of a better gift for someone you love and care about who needs to hear about how low-carb has changed the lives of real people.

I’ve been inundated with e-mails from so many readers who have been waiting for this DVD to arrive. Well now it’s here, so let’s show Mystique Films how much we appreciate all their hard work in bringing this pro-low-carb documentary to us. ORDER TODAY and get extra copies for your doctor, your friends and family with weight and health issues, and anyone else who could stand to benefit from livin’ la vida low-carb.

Special THANKS to Dr. Jay Wortman for conducting this study and to My Big, Fat Diet producer Mary Bissell who was at first skeptical about a high-fat, low-carb diet but became thoroughly convinced after she saw the changes happening to them right before her very own eyes. That’s the power of this message of a healthy low-carb diet and I can’t wait to hear what you think about this DVD!

An Interview With ‘The Biggest Loser’ 4 Contestant Julie Hadden

Filed under: Television — jimmy @ 10:32 am

Julie Hadden lost 97 pounds on “The Biggest Loser” 4

1. Yet another member of that dominating Black Team from Season 4 of the hit NBC-TV weight loss reality show “The Biggest Loser” is here with us today. It’s Julie Hadden and boy does she have quite a story to tell.

Starting on the show that season as the “smallest” contestant at just 218 pounds, she ended up in the final four and came within just eight pounds of beating eventual winner Bill Germanakos for the $250,000 grand prize. But she still lost an incredible 44.5% of her weight for a total of 97 pounds which puts her in the top 4 all-time biggest female losers percentage-wise on the show.

Looking at Julie today you’d never know she had a weight problem. WELCOME to the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” blog, Julie! I have to say when you came out during the grand finale in December 2007 that the difference in you was absolutely stunning! At that point I looked over at my wife Christine and said to her, “This is gonna be close between her and Bill.”

While I know you are proud of your amazing weight loss success, did you wonder about what you could have done to get down to 111 pounds to beat Bill? It had to be frustrating for you to work so hard and come up just 8 pounds short. Before Ali Vincent won Season 5, did you believe a woman would ever win “The Biggest Loser?”

Click here to read this inspiring interview with BL4 contestant Julie Hadden as she talks about her stunning weight loss success, the bias against women on the show, life as a newly adopted mom, what it was like working with the great Jillian Michaels, and MUCH MUCH MORE!!!

Have Your Video Seen On The Food Network’s ‘Ask Aida’ Show

Filed under: Television — jimmy @ 7:27 pm

Aida Mollenkamp has a new show coming to The Food Network

Do you like watching The Food Network as much as my wife Christine does? She’s a bona fide junkie and I’ve actually grown to like many of the shows on there, too. Watching these professional cooking kings and queens do their thing making some of the most delicious food you’ve ever seen is fun. That’s why the channel has been such an overwhelming hit with viewers over the years.

In Episode 37 of “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube,” Christine and I share with you about another brand new show (like this one I recently blogged about) coming to The Food Network beginning on August 2, 2008 at 12:30pm/11:30 CST–it’s called “Ask Aida”. Featuring the lovely and talented Aida Mollenkamp, the premise of this new show is to let Aida fix your culinary conundrums during her broadcast. She is soliciting people to send her a video of their cooking problems so she can help fix them. She’s like a “Dear Abby” for the kitchen!

See my two submissions to “Ask Aida” in today’s video:

Also, you can see my eggs video as well as my fried mashed cauliflower video (here’s the recipe, by the way!) questions that I am asking Aida to help me answer. The producers are looking for energy, excitement, entertainment and engaging videos with interesting questions. So don’t be shy! Give this a try and YOU could be appearing in this brand new television show starting in August. New ‘American Gladiators’ Features A Low-Carb Fitness Buff

Filed under: Television — jimmy @ 8:43 am

Monica Carlson is now “Jet” on the hit NBC-TV show “American Gladiators”

When NBC decided to bring back one of my all-time favorite television shows in January, I was so stoked! Watching it in the late 80s/early 90s, American Gladiators was an instant American cult classic. Here you had average, everyday people as contestants displaying brute strength, agility like a cat, and perfect timing attempting to give the pumped up Gladiators a thing or two to think about. Some did, some didn’t. Regardless, it was fun to watch when I was 18 and it’s still a blast today at 36.

Now hosted by wrestling legend Hulk Hogan and boxing great Muhammad Ali’s little baby girl Laila Ali, this show gave one man and one woman the chance-of-a-lifetime to become a brand new member of the beefy lineup in Season 1 earlier this year and both of the winners were well-deserved for outlasting all their competition. They got their big debut in Season 2 of American Gladiators (airing Mondays at 8:00pm EST) last night with all-new sculpted bodies that go along with their special Gladiator names.

Yet, there was one of those winners who stuck out to me when I heard about what she did after she found out she won that brought a big smile to my face. Jet, aka Monica Carlson, the mother of three who was crowned the female winner of American Gladiators a few months back, already looked in fabulous shape during her run on the show in Season 1, but man does she ever look amazing now?! You can really tell she’s worked hard to get the body she has now and my ears perked up when I heard exactly how she did it.

Click here to see a video of the new American Gladiator Jet as she explains how a high-protein, low-carb diet fueled her workouts to get her body into shape for Season 2.

The Food Network Starting New Series Featuring ‘Amazing’ Food-Related Stories

Filed under: Television — jimmy @ 8:17 am

Here’s your chance to be in a new Food Network series

Ever since we got cable back in our household about a year ago, my wife Christine has gone through phases of watching one particular channel at a time. At first, it was her favorite cable channel of all-time, the Sci-Fi Channel, and she got her fill of space aliens, ghost stories, and all things otherworldish! Then she switched over to the Discovery Channel for hours upon hours of Dirty Jobs, Cash Cab, How It’s Made and Mythbusters. Great shows indeed!

But lately she’s been in a cooking mood and you know what that means–THE FOOD NETWORK. Yes, our home has now been overtaken by Paula Deen, Rachael Ray, Emeril, Bobby Flay, Tyler Florence, and so many more. I like walking by and seeing what is being made if it is particularly low-carb (and many times it is or can be adapted to be low-carb!). Watching those professional cooks on The Food Network makes me wonder if maybe someday somebody I know will have a chance to appear on one of their shows.

Well, that might just happen sooner rather than later! Find out how YOU will have the chance to appear on a brand new Food Network show centered around “amazing stories” surrounding food by clicking here.

An Interview With ‘The Biggest Loser’ 4 Contestant David Griffin

David “Cowboy” Griffin lost triple digits thanks to “The Biggest Loser”

Continuing my series of interviews with former contestants from “The Biggest Loser” Season 4, I have pleased to welcome David Griffin. Fans of the show will remember him as the “cowboy” who was a member of the Kim Lyons-led Red Team. See what he has to say about her training, what he thought about the show prior to being a contestant, and what his purpose in life is now that he’s shed triple digits.

Here’s a brief snippet:

1. Today we welcome David Griffin from Season 4 of one of my favorite television shows ever–NBC’s weight loss reality series “The Biggest Loser.” David weighed in at 368 pounds when the cameras started rolling and went on to lose a total of 140 pounds through this experience. CONGRATULATIONS David on such a remarkable achievement and I’m very proud of you for making the commitment to improve your health as it is something that will stay with you for the rest of your life. I thought it was interesting that you had never even watched “The Biggest Loser” before you became a contestant. As an obese person, did you feel the show was too personal and embarrassing since you knew you had a problem? Or did you just not care?

Even though at one time I tipped the scales at a little more than 400 pounds, I had never been much for watching television. So it had nothing to so with embarrassment or not caring–I didn’t even know that the show existed.
