Low-Carb Success Stories Have Their Photos Hijacked By An HCG Diet Web Site

The Seattle office for the HCG diet has some serious explaining to do

There are weight loss companies galore making claims about how their plan produces the kind of results you are looking for. Many of these businesses waltz out testimonials from their happy clients with nifty before and after photos to show off the diet and market it to other consumers. But what if the success stories were fake or, even worse, STOLEN from people who lost weight legitimately on another program. That’s exactly what was uncovered over the weekend and it’s got the low-carb blogging community outraged about it.

Click here to see the illegal posting of before and after photos of notable low-carb bloggers Kent Altena, Big Daddy D, Amy Dungan, and Muata Kamdibe on the Seattle HCG Diet web site over the summer and what YOU can do to help them with this injustice!

Kelly Herring realizes food can be a medicine or poison for your body

How many people are walking around and don’t have a clue about the impact of food on their body? Unfortunately, too many people believe that if a food tastes good, then it cannot be healthy. But in this day and age of advancements in cooking ingredients and techniques, that’s just not true anymore. Finding low-glycemic load foods and implementing these nutrient-dense foods into your diet is essential to producing weight and health control in anyone who is willing to try it. Today’s podcast guest specializes in delicious foods that are super-healthy that power-up your body and control blood sugar levels.

In Episode 289 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from Kelley Herring, founder and CEO of Healing Gourmet and the author of a seven-book health series called Your Plate Your Fate. Additionally, she runs a company called Wellness Bakeries that offers scrumptious healthy low-carb foods and recipes that fit your palate. Kelley understands the food/body connection quite well and encourages people to find better choices rather than continuing to shovel in the garbage day after day. Switch out the sugar for erythritol and stevia blends like Truvia and substitute almond or coconut flour for the white flour to significantly lower the glycemic load, calories, and of course the carbohydrates. Most people can’t tell the difference between these low-sugar treats and the full-sugar versions. What an enthusiastic advocate of healthy low-carb and low-sugar living and I hope you are encouraged by what you hear from Kelley today.

Help Out A Fellow Low-Carber Ben Fury Who Lost Everything In California Wildfire

Ben Fury’s CA-based Bettercise Health & Wellness Center burned to the ground

Have you been following all the tragic damage caused by the wildfires happening in Southern California? There have been thousands of brave firefighters tackling these dangerous out-of-control fires that have caused nearly 7,000 homes to be evacuated and endangering another 6,000+ in and around the Los Angeles area. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a state of emergency earlier this month and it is negatively impacting the lives of so many — including a friend and fellow low-carb health advocate who is a member at my forum named Ben Fury.

Ben is the owner of a health and fitness business called The Bettercise Health and Wellness Center and I’m sad to report that he and his family have suffered a total loss of their cabin in the woods as a result of the wildfires in California. Those photos at the top of this column are what is left of his home and business going up in flames. Worst of all, his insurance company is refusing to repay him for these losses.

“Due to a series of unfortunate events, fire insurance was not in effect at the time so the loss will not be reimbursed,” Ben told Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb.

Bettercise owner Ben Fury helps his older clients get into shape

Lost in the fire that destroyed their home was a collection of thousands of health and medical-related books that comprised Ben’s massive library as well as the equipment he used with clients in his practice. In other words, Ben says “we are starting over completely from scratch.”

I know times have been tough for so many people over this past year, but if you are able to give even a small amount of financial assistance to help this fellow low-carber who has been devastated by the California wildfires, then I know he’d appreciate it so much. Ben and his wife Jean are in the process of picking up the pieces and starting anew on their mission to help people get their weight and health back in order again. I’ll be sharing an interview with Ben Fury on my podcast show next week so you can hear the passion in his voice about the work he is doing.

If you’d like to donate money to Ben in his efforts to rebuild, send your gift to:

Ben Fury
11027 Oro Vista Ave
Sunland, CA 91040

No amount is too small to help a good family in their time of need. Remember Ben and Jean Fury in your prayers and feel free to send them encouraging cards, letters, and e-mails along with your donations. THANK YOU for rallying around this low-carb family and giving them hope that brighter days are coming soon. God bless you!

Got A ‘Middle-Aged Middle’? Let Drs. Mike And Mary Dan Eades Help You In Just 6 Weeks

Drs. Mike and Mary Dan Eades developed a 6-week plan to flatten your belly

A wedding. A high school reunion. Fitting into a bathing suit in time for summer. We all have our reasons for wanting to lose weight, but sometimes we want it to happen quickly. This doesn’t mean that you necessarily need to lose weight quickly as a general rule, but there are certain circumstances when it is required. That’s the subject of a brand new book from two of the most famous low-carb celebrities today who join me as podcast guests to talk about it.

In Episode 286 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from the low-carb giants Drs. Mike and Mary Dan Eades as they discuss their September 8, 2009 book release The 6-Week Cure For The Middle-Aged Middle: The Simple Plan to Flatten Your Belly Fast! The Eades are expressly concerned about fat accumulation not just in the subcutaneous area, but also in the visceral area that surrounds the organs. They realize from many years of eating low-carb that people can tend to get “sloppy” with their low-carb nutritional habits and wanted to develop a way for low-carbers to get back in the groove again when subtle weight gain happens. Listen in to hear them explain why it is important to get rid of unwanted visceral fat quickly and safely through a proven 6-week plan they came up with based on all their research over the years that they developed in response to being told they were too fat to be on television. OUCH! There are no stronger proponents of healthy low-carb living in the medical community than Dr. Mike and Dr. Mary Dan and they are such a pleasure to listen to. ENJOY!

‘The Hidden Perils Of The Atkins Phenomena’ Debunked

Filed under: Atkins Diet,In The News — @

Gee, what a surprise — the Atkins diet is maligned again!

One of the primary purposes of what I do at this blog is to make people think about what they believe and why they believe it. On the subject of nutrition and health, the difference between what is fact from fiction could very well have your life depending on it. That is one of the reasons why I speak out so passionately about what I believe both from my own experiences as well as all the research I have done on healthy low-carb living.

My goal is to arm you with fact-based information, get you excited about livin’ la vida low-carb, help boost your confidence as you speak with people about this amazing way of eating, and hopefully encourage you to carry on the low-carb torch to others by standing in defense of what it has done for you and millions more. I’m thrilled to see so many new faces joining us long-term low-carbers in articulating what this remarkable nutritional approach has done for both our weight and health. It’s like we have our own little army of troops out there who are constantly on guard to protect the message from being distorted by would-be evildoers.

That’s precisely what happened yesterday in a newspaper column entitled “The Hidden Perils Of The Atkins Phenomena.” Find out more about the lies about low-carb that were shared in this column and the response one of my readers shared with the editors at that paper by clicking here.

Health Care Reform: Do We Need The Government To Fix It Or Is The Individual’s Responsibility?

Filed under: In The News — @ September 2, 2009

The debate over U.S. health care reform is hot right now, but is it necessary?

The battle over the best way to reform the health care system is arguably the most talked-about issue in America today. We can all agree that there are certainly a fair share of problems associated with the way things are being done in how health is insured, managed, and implemented in the United States right now, but what is the best solution? While lawmakers in Washington, DC debate the merits of a government-run health care system versus granting tax incentives to employers to help make it happen for those millions who are uninsured, I think there is a vital and arguably more important tertiary element to this conversation that is not being articulated all by any of the major health leaders of our day. What I’m talking about is preventative medicine through natural nutritional remedies that have been shown in scientific studies to improve most of the most costly and deadly diseases of our day!

Click here to find out why most of the health problems Americans are facing could be eradicated or significantly improved with the implementation of a low-carb lifestyle change.

Dr. Kevin Weiland’s ‘Dakota Diet’ Takes Nutrition Back To The Days Of The Plains Indians

Dr. Kevin Weiland advocates a “good fat” hunter-gatherer diet

Most of us are abundantly aware of the tremendous health benefits of eating a diet like our early ancestors consumed. For those Plains Indians in the Dakotas, that meant a nutrient-dense diet rich in grass-fed buffalo, elk, lamb, deer and other foods such as free-range chicken eggs, salmon, flax seed, as well as other omega-3-rich essential fatty acids. Today’s podcast interview guest is a practicing family doctor who became so frustrated with seeing his patients struggling with preventable diseases that could have been avoided with simple changes in nutrition.

In Episode 284 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear directly from Dr. Kevin Weiland, author of The Dakota Diet: Health Secrets from the Great Plains. As you listen to him speaking about his paleo-like nutritional plan, you’ll still hear Dr. Weiland allow conventional wisdom creep in focusing on the perils of saturated fat and the idea of calories in, calories out, for example. But he also recognizes the importance of balancing the omega-6 and omega-3 ratio, the superior quality of grass-fed meats, and finding a cure for childhood obesity. We discuss the future of healthcare in America, the impact that President Obama could make on the issue of diet, and other related topics that came up during our enjoyable conversation.

Dr. Jorge Flechas Says Iodine Deficiency Behind Many Of Today’s Health Complications

Dr. Jorge Flechas is the foremost authority on iodine in the world

Whenever you mention iodine to most people, they generally think of two things: a topical treatment for disinfecting wounds or an additive to their table salt. But most people are completely unaware that there are significant health complications that come from an iodine deficiency. And, like the woefully inadequate amounts of vitamin D that is included in milk, the same is true for iodine in salt. That is why supplementing your diet with more iodine is so vitally important to your health according to my podcast interview guest today.

In Episode 283 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from Dr. Jorge Flechas from Hendersonville, North Carolina who specializes in treating fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue as well as iodine therapy for hypothyroidism and fibrocystic breast disease. The absence of iodine in the body is a precursor for cancer which is one of the reasons why Dr. Flechas is such a passionate champion for this cause. He notes that half of people don’t use iodized salt or they reduce their salt intake –both of which reduces the amount of iodine in the body leading to a slew of health issues.

You hear examples of how iodine deficiency manifests itself, including in pregnant women whose kids go on to develop attention deficit disorder. He also rails against the use of cholesterol-lowering medications like statins for protecting against heart disease when it is likely a lack of iodine. Dr. Flechas says Asian cultures tend to have lower heart disease death rates (5%) as compared with the United States (50%) because of their high seaweed consumption — a natural food that is loaded with plenty of iodine. Listen to this world-renowned expert as he communicates about this subject of iodine and you too will become convinced that you need to get more iodine in your body to experience even better health in conjunction with your healthy low-carb lifestyle!

Here We Go Again: Extreme Media Hype Of Low-Carb ‘Study’ On Mice And Atherosclerosis

Dr. Anthony Rosenzweig says his mice prove low-carb bad for the heart

In September 2009, my brand new book 21 Life Lessons From Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb: How The Healthy Low-Carb Lifestyle Changed Everything I Thought I Knew is slated to be released at long last (YEAH!) and I am excited to be able to share so much of the knowledge I have gleaned from personal research and interviewing experts about diet, health, and life in general over these past five years of living the low-carb life. Looking at Lesson #19 of my book, it says “You can’t always trust or believe the negative studies on low-carb.” How timely because there’s a perfect example of this appearing all across the media today with so-called damning research about how a low-carb diet negatively impacts vascular health. Hoo boy!

Dr. Deborah Snyder: Two Out Of Every Three Epileptics Improve Seizure Control On Low-Carb Ketogenic Diet

Dr. Deborah Snyder speaks out on the ketogenic diet for epileptic seizures

Whether the media and the so-called health “experts” will ever give it a fair shake, the low-carb ketogenic diet is about so much more than simple weight loss. In fact, a lot of the latest medical literature is now looking at the tremendous health benefits of eating this way. One of the most cutting-edge uses of a ketogenic diet in the research world is for seizure control in children with epilepsy. Today’s podcast interview guest is a professionally trained family doctor who discovered the ketogenic cure for her son’s seizures.

In Episode 282 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from Dr. Deborah Snyder, author of Keto Kid: Helping Your Child Succeed on the Ketogenic Diet. After watching her son Bryce experience some rather severe seizures, she realized that a high-fat, adequate protein, low-carb diet was going to give him a chance to reduce his seizures. With a success rate of two out of every three people who try it, why wouldn’t someone wanting to control seizures in their epileptic child try this nutritional answer to the problem? Hear this inspiring story from Dr. Snyder about how ketone bodies are much healthier than they have been portrayed. It most certainly saved her son Bryce and now she’s on a mission to share what she has learned with the world. ENJOY!

Maverick Marion Urichich And His ‘One In A Hundred Million’ Life

Lifelong rebel Marion Urichich is certainly “One In A Hundred Million”

We’ve all met people who would properly be described as mavericks–they buck the trend, walk to the beat of a different drummer, do whatever pleases them no matter what the consequences, and just seize every moment of life. Some look at people like this and turn their nose up thinking of how much they waste their lives. But others admire these countercultural rebels for their tenacity to get every drop out of life. Today we have one such maverick as a podcast guest that I’m sure you’re gonna love.

In Episode 281 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from 81-year old Marion Urichich, author of One in a Hundred Million: The Life and Times of Marion Urichich who has been through so many extraordinary events in his life. Electrocuted. Shooting par on the first hole he played golf. Stung by a stingray. Run over by a bulldozer. Most people only experience a few of these kind of events in their life, but for Marion it was a common occurrence. Listen to him tell the stories he has lived through, rail against the pharmaceutical industry, talk about how he stays healthy in his 80s, the diet he uses to maintain his health, and his overall views on health and life. He’s most certainly one-of-a-kind! ENJOY!
